What Can I Eat?

Woke up in the middle of the night with a bad case of diarrhoea and a bit of vomitting. Got up in the morning to reenact that.

Was it the ice-cream that contains milk that may contain melamine? Was it the beef that is said to be a mixture of sausage and factory flour, or worse, meat from a mysterious animal? Or was it the kangshifu water that is rumoured to be tap water?

My mother told me to just eat Quaker Oats.

Dino Beach @ Shanghai

Putting Singapore’s Wild Wild Wet to shame, Shanghai’s Dino Beach is a water theme park that is actually fun! A bit pricey, a bit far (close to Xin Zhuang metro station), and lousy shower and changing room facilities, but worth the fun! American style theme park, but Chinese way of pricing. We’re actually expected to hang our money in a plastic tube around our neck (given free) in the park so that we can pay for the rent of the tubes for the slides. (@#$%!!!!)

Do you know that SIngapore’s Wild WIld Wet has a slogan “Safety First, Fun Last”? Just thought it’s a bit too uptight. Guards are already everywhere, and seeing such a slogan on a huge poster just makes it feel…so Singapore.

However, the fun ends, and I definitely can’t get used to the public shower facilities (most swimming pools, and a water theme park like this) here:

Shower: no partition/curtain/door whatsoever. Changing area: as above

Dino Beach is only open during summer months though, and we made it for the last day (2 Sep)!

Of Names and Nature of Business

During my summer vacation back on the sunny island I worked for a brief period of time at a certain foreign bank. While for most of it I was soaking in monotony, there were instances that made me chuckle, or perhaps I seeked laughable instances so that I can entertain myself.

I was looking at a pro-family schemed (that involves free money from the government) account opening forms, where I spent some time taking note of the ranges of income different professions fetched. I came across rather fancy names, and wonder whether I’ll meet anyone such named in my lifetime:

Xanthyer; Nicodemus; Kevia; Bellburly; Janielle; Manfred; Gershon; Velkissia; Ezekiel; Ebenezer; Zephania; Rykielyn; Trevetta; Junette; Faarung; Charlize; Reyeden; Princern; Zaverie; Alaric; Keicia; Edsel; Walvis; Farrell; Kennice; Mateo; Lettoria; Killian; Zenden;Velkissia, etc.

Then there were names I thought parents tried too hard:

Jazzmin; Juztin; Cherish; Bright; Boeing; Precious; Pinky; Chance; Aristotle; Heavenly Joyus, etc.

And sure-to-be-teased ones:

The **** Bean; Boo Lee; Week Lee; Ai Kiew; (Surname) Bun; (Surname) Quick

Checking through certain addresses, I noticed someone who wrote:

Address: Blk ***, ****** Street ** #**-**
Building Name: HDB
Immediately I looked at her profession: Teacher (??!!!)

There’s more. Speaking of professions, one form showed this:

Profession: Pastor

Nature of Business: God’s business

Which actually isn’t very funny as I write it now, because it can’t beat this one (disclaimer: I’m not picking on teachers):

Profession: Teacher

Nature of Business: INDOORS
