Saving while charging to your credit card

Did I just contradict myself in the title of this post?

I very much prefer debit cards, because it controls what you can buy with your limited money, and not splurge on what you shouldn’t buy by using future money.

As much as I fancy debit cards, credit cards are mandatory for certain payments, or basically to be used as a form of insurance for some companies. Hotel check-ins, for instance, require credit cards to be used in case anything is damaged in the course of the stay. It’s wise to research and compare all the credit cards available to you, before applying for one. Among the heap of credit card types, I would choose one with the lowest interest rate, that has a rewards programme with points accumulation, although that on its own is the credit card company’s tactic to make you use it more, damn. Maybe I’m naive to fall into their trap of encouraging spending, but I would think accumulating points while purchasing something (be it necessity or not) makes spending not so painful. I know it’s just an illusion.
Read up on credit cards before actually applying for one in haste. Avoid unnecessary debt.
