Ah Peks Galore Horsing Around

If anyone is scouting around for perceptive middle-aged men, tell them they can find paradise in Singapore Turf Club on race days.
I was there on Sunday for Singapore’s Four-Year-Old-Mile 2007 to join in the bustle of races, of both horses and hearts.

We bought our tickets at a ticketing machine. Entrance fees are $3 for lower grandstand seats (no air-con), and $7 for upper grandstand seats (air-conditioned)

Fortunately, we decided to get the upper grandstand seats because it rained later on.

This meant that the seats were taken. Singaporeans have their way of reserving seats, eh? I’m sure you’ve seen the tissue packets at food courts and hawker centres, indicating the reserved seats?

People from the lower grandstand came out to the courtyard in anticipation of the upcoming race. As you can see, barricades and benches are used differently by these avid horse betters. Somehow there’s a lot of squatting going on when it comes to gambling.

Race 6, horse number 2 (Superb Star) emerged as the winner.
